Yokosuka (Yo-KO-ska) is a "metropolitan seaside community" of approximately 500,000 people which spans the Miura Peninsula, surrounded by Sagami and Tokyo Bays, approximately two hours south of Tokyo. Its latitude puts it in line with Santa Barbara, California. The climate is temperate, similar to that of Washington, D.C.

Nearby attractions include historic Kamakura (featuring the Daibutsu - Great Buddha) and the Emperor's summer palace at Hayama. I live in Akiya Beach on Sagami Bay on the west side of the Miura Peninsula.

Yokosuka Middle School serves approximately 600 students in grades 6-8 whose parents are stationed at Yokosuka Navy Base.
