Kamakura
Kamakura features many historically significant Buddhist temples. The best known is the Great Buddha (Daibutsu), a remarkable 93 ton, 37 1/2' high bronze statue cast in the thirteenth century. The temple surrounding it was swept away in a fourteenth century storm.
The Hasedera Temple features a 30' high gilded wooden statue of the "Eleven-Faced" Kannon carved in the eighth century.
